City of Arden Hills Chapter 13 Zoning Code <br /> Subd. 19 Boarding house. A structure where sleeping rooms are provided, with a common <br /> entrance, internal access to all rooms, one (1) or more bathrooms, and one (1) or more <br /> kitchens to provide lodging for at least three (3) but not exceeding five (5) persons. A <br /> boarding house is distinguished from a transient accommodation such as a hotel or motel as <br /> defined in this chapter. (Added 7114110) <br /> Subd. 20 Boulevard. That portion of a street lying between the lateral line of the roadway <br /> portion thereof(i.e., the back of the curb or curb line) and the right-of-way line thereof which <br /> may contain within its boundaries a sidewalk or portion of driveway. - <br /> Subd. 21 Building. A structure which is designed and suitable for the habitation or shelter <br /> of human beings or animals, or a shelter or storage of property, or is used for trade or <br /> manufacturing. <br /> Subd. 22 Building line. A line parallel to a lot line or the ordinary high water level at the <br /> required setback beyond which a structure may not extend. A subordinate building structure or use <br /> which is located on the same lot on which the principal building or use is situated and which <br /> is reasonable necessary, appropriate and incidental to the conduct of the primary use of such <br /> principal building or principal use. <br /> Subd. 24 Building envelope. (See Lot, Buildable portion of.) <br /> Subd. 25 Building height. The vertical distance from the average elevation of the grade <br /> along a face of a building to the highest point of the roof surface of flat roofs,the deck line of <br /> mansard roofs, or the average height between the eaves and the highest ridge of gable, hip, or <br /> gambrel roofs. The height of a stepped or terraced building shall be the height of the tallest <br /> segment of the building. <br /> Subd. 26 Building inspector. The inspector as provided for in the building code. <br /> Subd. 27 Building,principal. A building in which the principal use, of the lot on which it is <br /> located, is conducted. <br /> Subd. 28 Bulk. The term used to indicate the size and setbacks of buildings or structures <br /> and location of same with respect to one another and includes the following items: <br /> A. Size and height of buildings or structures. <br /> B. Location of exterior walls at all levels in relation to lot lines, street or to other <br /> buildings or structures. <br /> C. Gross floor area of buildings or structures in relation to lot lines, street or to <br /> other buildings or structures. <br /> D. All open spaces allocated to buildings or structures. <br /> E.
