For the past several months I have been working with
the Public Works crew to establish priorities and discuss how we can be more efficient through
the use of technology and equipment. At Monday's work session we would like to start with a
brief tour of the facility for the benefit of Councilmember Werner. Next we would like to
introduce the Public Works crew since we have two employees who have been with the City for
less than a year. We will also review how we spent our time in 2010 and then have four specific
issues we would like to have some discussion on with the City Council. These include: changes
to the fleet, which we believe will help with efficiency; an implementation schedule for SCADA,
which I understand has been in the CIP for several years; sanitary sewer lining of the older clay
lines in our system; and lastly, the potential for installation of a floor drain system and infra -red
heating system in the cold area of the shop.
Finally we would like to briefly discuss initiatives we plan to work on in 2011 and beyond.
These include items such as the use of technology for the storage of important records,
developing a street sign inventory and review, and /or development of policies regarding the
various areas of operation.
City Council Meeting
P:\Admin \Council\Agendas Packet Information\20 1 1 1 -18 -11 Worksession\Packet Information\ 1 -18 -11
PublicWorksDiscussion.doc
