August 12, 2D08 <br />Mr. James Lehnhoff <br />City o# ArcEen Mills <br />1245 West Highway 96 <br />Arden Hills, MN 55i 12 <br />RE: Minor Building Renovation <br />5miths Medical <br />i265 Grey Fox Road <br />Dear James, <br />As discussed, the minor changes a# the Srniths Medica! campus in Arden Hills will require a review <br />by the City Council. Howe�er, the extremefy minor nature of the changes, with na impact on <br />personnel count or parking requirements, can be handled with a simple request for modi#ication of <br />the existing pUD. If the City Councif agrees and approves the request at the public hearing an <br />August 25, we can reques# a building permit shartly thereafter. <br />As requested, I am pro�iding this brief description of the changes as a formal request for approval. <br />Please find attached a check for $15Q to cover the city fees. <br />Scope: <br />As discussed, there are some changes coming at Smiths Medical. The mo�e of fhe top le�ei of <br />management from England to Arden Hiils has prompted the need #or more executi�e office space. <br />As a result, we wili be recanfiguring the Human Resources area adjacent to the main entry. To <br />create enough interior space we wiii Eae infiffing #he diagonal corner of the existing building. This area <br />is currentfy under the existing roof and creates an outdoor patio space. ihe space in ques#ion is <br />approxima#eEy 500 square feet. <br />This project has the highest priority within Smiths Medical and of caurse, a rushed schEdule. <br />Qescription: <br />7he construction will require remo�ing the exis#ing diagonal wafl of glass from uncEer the raof. A new <br />wall of windows will be built at the outside edge of the space on the soutf� and west sides to create a <br />rectangular interior space. The new windows will ma#ch the existing in firame style, and finis� as well <br />as glass. Once cornpleted, this part of the building should blend with the remainder of the campus. <br />This new area will be configured as the new executive area. WhiEe #he work adds 500 square feet to <br />the area of the building, there is �ery little eff�c# on the personnel count and subsequently, the <br />required parking. The new executive area, with its large offices, actually wili have a lower personne] <br />count than the previous Human Resources space. The Human Resources space will be <br />reconfigured and wilf be smaller, reflecting the new personnel needs in this department. <br />I trus# that this is the irtformation that you need.
