TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmem er FROM: Patrick Klaers, City Administrator � SUBJECT: Pubiic Works Union Contract " Back round The City and Union represeniatives had a Union Contract rnediation session on February 10, 20ll. Priar to this rr�ediation session, on February 7th, the City Council held an Executive Session to discuss settlement parameiers. At the mediation session a tentative agreement was reached between the City and the Union; and on February 23, 2011, the Union member� vated io forfnally accept the Ciry's settlement offer. The City terms that were proposed and acce�ted are attached (�ebruary 10th letter to Kent Korman}. Tod�v �taff believes that the proposed settlernent is consistent with direction that they received from the City Council during the February 7, 2011, Execu#ive Session. The settlement is a t�vvo year contract with a r�opener in the second year for Insurance and for the Crew Leader issues. The settlement tenns include a zero wage adjustment in 2011 and a one percent wage increase on January 1, 2012. Alsa, there is no change in the City's contribution ta health az�zd dental insurance in 201 l.. �inally, there will be two memorandums of understanding (MOU} attached to the contract; one dealing with the Commercial Driver's License and th� other dealing wi#h work associated with the Celebrating Arden Hills event. Overall, the s�ttlement addresses only a few contract issues that are t`airly s�aight forward. Recommendation It is recommended tha� the City Council approve the Union Contraci settlement terms as outlined in the attached letter dated Feb�uar� 10, 2011, and direc� staff to update the con.tract docurnent �ox signatures.
