Mr. Yonke displayed several aerial maps illustrating key locations where benches could be installed in the parks and along regional trails taking into consideration existing bench locations. Ramsey County Parks and Recreation staff considered standards of where to position the benches in relation to the others, about every 1,000 feet up to Yit mile apart in some places depending on the trail. Mr. Straumann moved, seconded by Mr. Tempas, to recommend approval on the proposed bench locations within Ramsey County Parks and Regional Trails. Motion carried. DIRECTOR'S REPORT Mr. Mack reported: • The Governor's recommendation for General Fund appropriations for operations and maintenance for regional parks is a 40% reduction. There will be a hearing on March 10 before the House to introduce a bill that will seek a comparable reduction to the state for regional parks at 5 %. If the 40% reduction was put into place, it would impact beaches with lifeguards, the ability to maintain winter trail access (plowing) and the ability to maintain natural resources. • Legacy funding was approved by Minnesota voters in 2008. The first years of appropriations from that fund were 2009 -2010. The Governor has proposed distributing the Parks and Trails Funds in the following proportions: 42% State parks, 42% metropolitan regional parks and 15% statewide grants for regional parks. Counties in greater Minnesota are requesting a larger share of the appropriation. The Legacy plan that relates to parks and trails proposed by the DNR supports the Governor's appropriation. REPORT FOR CHAIR AND OTHER COMMISSION MEMBERS Rich Straumann reported that he has volunteered for the legacy brick program group at Tamarack Nature Center.
