� <br />EN HYLLS <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE: June l, 2011 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Counciltnembers <br />Patrick Klaers, City Administrator <br />FROM: Michelle OIson, Parks and Recreation Manager � <br />SUBJECT: Parchase of Park Amenities — Picnic Tables <br />Back r� ound <br />During the Capital Improvement Discussions in 20I0, the Ci�ty Council suggested adding <br />$5,000 for Park Amenities each year beginning in 2011. Park amenity needs change each <br />year. These amenities can range from picnic tabies, park bench swings, irail signage, <br />trash cans, benches, etc... This year, staff recommends purchasing five, eight foot picnic <br />tables. These tables are ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990} compliant tables <br />made with steel frames and green expanded steeI top and seats. They axe very dur�ble and <br />the surfaca o� the table top and seats are thermaplastic coated, making them almost <br />completely vandal proof. A speciiication sheet and photo of the table is included. The <br />City has had past probiems with graffiti and vandalism of our wood picnic tables. Tne City <br />has regular rentals at Cummings Park and Perry Park throughout the springlsummer. We <br />have purchased five tables in the past two years to have at the two larg�r pavilions. These <br />tables have worked out well in the past fiwo years and ordering five this year will give us a <br />total of ten of these nicer tables for Currxmings Park and Perry Park. These iables are <br />aesthetically pleasing, durable and very comfortable for users. At their May l, 2011 <br />PTRC meeting, the Committee reviewed the potential purchase of picnic tables and agreed <br />�his was an appropriate choice for this year's arnenity purchase. They suggested utilizing <br />the $5,000 in 2012 for trail signage, The 2012-2014 CIl' will be re�viewed and discussed <br />by Council at the June work session. <br />Beedget <br />The CIP includes $5,000 for park amenities designated each year from 2011-2014 from the <br />PIR Fund. The pricing for ihese types oitables were found at three different manufacturers <br />with St. Croix Recreation Corr�par�y, Inc. having the lowest price at $809.00 per table. <br />With five tables, inciuding tax and shipping, the total purchase price is $4,681.36. <br />Shipping is estimaied to be 4-6 weeks firom purchase date. <br />Council Action Re uested <br />Motion to authorize the purchase of five ADA accessible eight foot steeI framed picnic <br />tables in the amount of $4,68i.36 frorn St. Croix Recreation Company, Inc. <br />IlMetro-inet.uslardenhillslPR&PWIParkslMemoslCouncilMemos406012011 Park�lmenityPurchase.doc <br />
