Parks, Trails & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes May 17, 2011
Page 5
Ms. Olson indicated that for 2013 the projects were basically the same because they are annual
projects, but she did include the West Round Lake Trail; however, there is an easement issue
because they need to get an easement through Deluxe.
Ms. Olson pointed out that the projects listed under 2014 -2016 are just placeholders and that
the main focus is on the current two years.
Discussion ensued about the trails and it was decided to move the 2014 Snelling Avenue
Regional Trail up to 2013 in place of the West Round Lake Road Trail.
Ms. Olson indicated that the 2015 County Road E Trail might possibly be moved up to 2014 if
the City decides to advance construct. She stated she only included this in 2015 since that is
when Mn/DOT is funding.
Ms. Olson also informed the committee members that the first playground structure
replacement would be in 2016 for Perry Park.
D. Other New Business
None
5. REPORTS
A. City Council Report
Ms. Olson gave a brief report in Council Liaison Werner's absence. She informed the
committee that there is a proposal for the old Holiday Inn site for a Senior Assisted Living
facility and there will be some park dedication fee proposals for that site.
Ms. Olson indicated that Arden Plaza has a concept of having a CVS where the pod buildings
are on County Road E and that this will be coming to Council.
B. Public Works/Parks and Recreation Report
Ms. Olson indicated that six seasonal employees will be starting in Public Works.
She also indicated the parks have new recycle bins because of a St. Paul /Ramsey County
Health Department grant. All recycle bins were free with the idea that the City would collect
the recyclables and encourage recycling throughout the community.
Ms. Olson informed that she continues to work on "Celebrating Arden Hills" and will doing a
similar setup as last year where they will have events at Tony Schmidt but instead of
partnering with Presbyterian Homes they will be partnering with Bethel University to do an art
display. So far, $6,700 has been received in sponsorships.
