EN HTI,LS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: June 27, 2011
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
Pairick Klaers, City Administator
FROM: Kristine Giga, Civil Engineer
SUBJECT: Indian Oaks Court Pond Shoreline Restoration and Landscaping
Project — Change Order #1 and Payment #1
Backround
The City of Arden Hills awarded Natural Shore Technolagies, Inc. of Map1e Plain,
Minnesota, the Tndian Oalcs Court Pon. Shoreline Resioration and Landscaping Project
on Apri 25, 2011, for a total contract amount of $14,037.20.
Discussion
This pay request includes work completed through June 9, 2011. The major'rty a the
work is conplete. Once the pipe repair is completed the contractor will cornplete the
rernaining restoration around the pipe apron.
FinancialIm lications
After rneeting in the field with the contractor, ii was determin.ed that some of the biolog
rolls used along the edge of the pond wauld need to be larger in diameter, 16", than the
12" diarneter originally called out in the plans. On. the sides of the pond where the slopes
are steeper, the 12" biolog would have been cornpletely submerged and not effectzve in
protcting the upland slopes. There were also some areas that needed additional compost
material to level out the uneven terrain. However, the contractor did indicate that there
would not be a need for as much erosion control blanlcet as was caZled out in the plans.
Change order # 1 includes the addition o compost and lie lazger 16" biolog roIls, and a
reduction in the quantity for the 12" biolog rolls and erosion conirol blanket. The total
casi increase over the original contract amount is $2,728.80. However, SO°/Q of this rvill
be reirnbursed through the cost-share with the Ramsey Conservation District; therefore,
the additional cost ta th.e City is $1,364.40.
City Council Meeting
I1Metro-inei.uslardenhillslPA&PWIEngineeringlCouncil Actions120 1 116-27-1 1Memo PondMaintenanceRestoration-
Paymentl .doc
Page I of 2
