;tS.RZEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: July 18, 2011
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
FROM: Patrick Klaers, City Administrator
SUBJECT: State Budget and Stadium Proposal
On Thursday, July 14, 2011, Mayor Grant called a Special City Council meeting for
Monday, July 18th, at 7:00 p.m.
The purpose of this Special meeting is to review and discuss and to consider possible
action on:
1) the State budget compromise
2) the stadium proposal
As of the writing of this memo, the "budget deal" has been tentatively agreed to by the
Governor and the Republican leadership. Accordingly, meetings by both parties will
happen over the weekend and an overall budget agreement is anticipated. A Special
Session is expected to be called for early next week. If all of this takes place, it is also
possible that new stadium legislation could be introduced and considered. The stadium
proposal is not part of the budget deal but Lester Bagley has comments in the Star
Tribune and the Pioneer Press regarding being close to an agreement and hopeful that the
stadium can be taken up in the Special Session after a budget is approved. If this is the
situation, the City Council may want to take some official action on the stadium proposal
Monday evening.
In an effort to be prepared if action by the City Council is deemed necessary and
appropriate, this Special meeting was called by Mayor Grant.
