EN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: September 19,2011
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Couu it e
FROM: Patrick Klaers, City Administrat ram/
SUBJECT: Allina Update
Background/Discussion
This past summer I met with Bill Snoke from Allina Medical Transportation. Bill is the
Director, Office of Emergency Medical Services. The purpose of our meeting was to
introduce me to the Allina services in the Arden Hills area. We ended our meeting by
talking about an Allina presentation and discussion with the City Council. Accordingly,
Bill and three members of the Allina Medical Transportation Management Team will be
at this City Council work session to discuss with the City Council the Allina organization
and services and what Allina provides for the Arden Hills area. Attached for your
information is some material provided by Bill Snoke.
Additionally, I have invited the Fire Chief Tina. Boehlke, representatives from the
Sheriffs Department, and Scott Williams, Director of the County Emergency
Communications Center to attend this work session. It is assumed that the Council will
want to discuss the issue of which emergency response or public safety organizations
should respond to which emergency calls and why.
Over the past year I have heard the Council discuss emergency response policies and
procedures, and question why the Ambulance (Allina), Police (Sheriff's Department),
and Fire Department all respond to Medical 911 calls. By having everyone involved in
the situation attending this work session, we can hopefully reach an understanding as to
the benefits and costs of having all three organizations respond to a call and what the
drawbacks would be if either the Police or the Lake Johanna Fire Department did not
respond to a call.
City Council Meeting
C:lUserslsonja.klingbcrglDesktopl2A,Allina Update,doe
Page 1 of 1
