EN HILLS <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE: October 18, 2011 <br />TO: Parks Trails and Recreation Committee <br />FROM: Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager <br />SUBJECT: Trail Signage Preliminary Discussion <br />Agenda Item: 4.A. <br />Background <br />The PTRC approved 2011 goals include the following regarding trail signage: <br />Review the need for trail signage along trail corridors in the City and recommend a trail signage <br />plan to the Council. <br />Discussion <br />Staff would like the PTRC to begin identifying the following regarding trail signage in order to <br />begin producing a trail signage plan for the Council: <br />1. What is the purpose of providing signage? <br />2. What trails should have signage? <br />3. What type of signs? <br />4. What type of information would be provided on sign? <br />An existing trail map has been attached to assist in identifying potential locations for trail signs. <br />After the PTRC identifies basic information on the trail signage, staff can begin exploring <br />options for type of signs and produce an estimated cost. The CIP for 2012 (will not be <br />approved until December) currently includes $3,000 for park amenities. This was reduced by <br />Council request from $5,000 in 2011. This is the possible funding source for the trail signage. <br />If the PTRC would like extensive trail signage, Council will need to agree to the additional <br />expense. <br />Requested Action <br />Staff is looking for input from the Committee on trail signage in order for the PTRC to begin <br />producing a trail signage plan for Council review. <br />10182011 Trail signage discussion. doc <br />
