ARDEN HILLS REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETNG JANUARY 9, 2012 2
Community Development Director Hutmacher explained that stadium opponents have started
collecting signatures on a petition for a Ramsey County Charter Amendment that would prohibit
the County from spending money on a professional sports stadium without a vote by Ramsey
County residents. She stated any stadium proposal in Minneapolis would require an override of
the Minneapolis Charter Amendment that prohibits the City from spending more than
$10,000,000 on a sports stadium. She further reported that a Star Tribune article published
January 8th indicated that an unnamed source in the Governor's administration had told the
Vikings that the Arden Hills site was unworkable. Today in an announcement on Minneapolis
Public Radio and on the Pioneer Press website, the Governor and Representative Lanning
disputed the Star Tribune's statement and reiterated that the stadium location is still an open
question.
Councilmember Holden stated that she thought the idea of the referendum was to not have
Ramsey County spend money on a stadium; but the referendum specifically refers to a stadium on
TCAAP.
Community Development Director Hutmacher stated that she hasn't seen the exact language
on the Charter Amendment.
Gregg Larson,4260 Hamline Av.
