l\r
1,000 Benches Program: Request for Applications
)1LRC
Active Living Ramsey County
Active Living Ramsey County is a partnership dedicated to creating and promoting
environments that make it safe and convenient for people to integrate physical activity
into their daily lives. One of the initiatives of ALRC is to provide 1,000 benches
throughout Ramsey County in networks of up to 20 benches that encourage people to
walk in their neighborhood and promote environmentally sustainable communities.
The 1,000 Benches Program is being implemented using a 50-50 cost share approach
with local partners, with Ramsey County providing 50% of the cost of benches up to a
cost of$600 per installed bench site. A bench site includes a concrete slab, bench and
three engraved pavers set into the slab.
This is a Request for Applications from communities within Ramsey County to participate
in the 1,000 Benches Program. Local governments within Ramsey County are eligible to
apply, and are encouraged to partner with local organizations. Each individual project is
limited to no more than 20 benches, but local governments may apply for more than one
network of benches.
The bench program has specifications for installation of benches. Each bench is to be of
the type identified by ALRC, installed on a concrete pad with engraved pavers set into
the concrete. The pavers will be engraved with quotes as well as sponsor identities,
including logos.
Two pilot projects have been implemented to demonstrate the program.
Attached are the following documents for applicants:
1. Mission, Vision, Objectives and Milestones of the 1,000 Benches Program
2. Criteria for Bench Corridor Projects
3.
