'!Tt
ARZEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: April 17, 2012 Agenda Item: 3.11.
TO: Parks Trails and Recreation Committee
FROM: Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager
SUBJECT: Park Bench Location Discussion
Background
The park bench implementation program was approved in 2010 by the City Council. This
implementation program is on a four year cycle. We are in year three of the cycle. The CIP
includes $5,000 each year for the remaining two years, 2012, 2013. The City Council directed
staff to select a consistent bench style when replacing or adding benches. The style chosen was
the Parkshore Contemporary Bench. This style is a comfortable design made entirely of
recycled materials, including the frames. This is an in-ground design, which makes it very
sturdy and maintenance free. The bench is cedar colored with black frames. Staff purchased
eight of these benches last year. Staff researched 2012 prices and discovered that $5,000 will
cover 11 benches this year.
One of the PTRC's approved goals is to recommend locations for the purchased benches. Staff
will bring the bench purchases to City Council approval in April Staff recommends the PTRC
review the attached map and be prepared to recommend bench placement. These locations can
be changed or alternate locations can be added by the committee. Staff provided potential
locations only for discussion purposes.
Requested Action
Staff is asking for the PTRC to recommend locations for eleven park benches
04172012 Bench Location Discussion.doc
