TO: Parks Trails and Recreation Committee FROM: Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager `rn� SUBJECT: Trail Signage Background At the February joint PTRC/City Council meeting, the Council gave preliminary approval for the PTRC to move further into design on trail signage. The next step identified was to work with a sign company to get a quote on sign production based on the PTRC's preliminary design. Staff met with Carol Kriegler from Vacker Sign Company to discuss the trail signage design. Vacker Sign Company designed and installed all of our park name signs. Staff laid out the PTRC's recommendation on signage (Attachment A) and the budget for this project. After meeting with Ms. Kriegler, she has recommended three options for trail signage. Staff will have these designs/layouts at Tuesday night's meeting. Ms. Kriegler does not recommend cedar construction for the frames and has proposed other, more durable and maintenance friendly materials. The design and layout is similar to the PTRC proposal. Vacker Sign Company is supplying samples of the proposed sign materials at Tuesday night's meeting. Staff also discussed the mapping portion of the design to gauge what Vacker Sign Company would need to export the map to the sign company. Ms. Kriegler is confident that she can work with the ArcView program that our City utilizes for our mapping. Staff included a trail map for the Committee to identify trail signage locations (Attachment B). Please plan on coming to the meeting prepared to recommend locations. A large trail map will be available for the committee to work with at Tuesday's meeting. Requested Action Staff is looking for the Committee to recommend a trail design option and specific trail signage locations to move forward for City Council review. 04172012 Trail signage design
