It
,-AEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: December 14, 2005 AGENDA ITEM 3.G
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Michelle Wolfe, City Administrator
SUBJECT: Various Updates:
1. City Council/City Staff Retreat
2. City Council Vacancy
3. New Engineer/City Engineer Status
CITY COUNCIL/STAFF RETREAT
The past two years we have held a Council/staff retreat in January. It is time to talk about the
2006 retreat. Staff needs directions regarding the following:
1. Timing of the Retreat— With the expected appointment of a new Council member in
later January, we may want to hold off the retreat until February. If everyone can
bring calendars, we can set a date or dates. (In the past we've met on a Friday
afternoon and Saturday morning.)
2. Selection of Facilitator — The City has had somewhat of a trend to have the same
facilitator for two years in a row and then change. Last year we had Jim Prosser from
Ehlers. Jim is now working out of the Illinois office, but I believe would still be
available. Otherwise, we can proceed with a process similar to last year, where we
got quotes from a few possible facilitators and then provided that information to
Council.
3. Topics for the Retreat — I would expect the facilitator to work with all of us on the
development of goals for the retreat. However, if there are any key points or requests
Council would like to make known at this time, it would be good to know.
CITY COUNCIL VACANCY
We will provide a verbal update as to the number of applications we've received. If we haven't
accomplished setting an interview date by Monday, we can select the date or dates on Monday
evening.
