lt
,-SRQENHILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: October 8, 2012
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
FROM: Patrick Klaers, City Administrator
Sue Iverson, Director of Finance and Administrative Services
SUBJECT: Reclassifying Department Directors from Grade 11 to Grade 12
Background and Discussion
The Personnel Committee met on October 3, 2012 to review non-union employee
compensation issues. Prior to this meeting, the committee had requested staff to provide
updated salary information. A salary survey with current 2012 data compared to the
2007 market survey was given to the committee.
After a review of the data compared to the market, the Personnel Committee recommends
that the department directors be reclassified from Grade 11 to Grade 12. To implement
this change, the Personnel Committee recommends that the directors be placed in Step 6
of the scale at Grade 12 effective November 1, 2012. (As a note, our salary scale has 8
steps and all directors are currently in Step 8 of Grade 11).
The impact of this change to the 2012 General Fund Budget will be less than $1,500.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council approve a reclassification of the department
directors (Director of Finance and Administrative Services, Public Works Director/City
Engineer, and Community Development Director) salaries from Grade 11, Step 8 to
Grade 12, Step 6 effective November 1, 2012.
City Council Meeting
P:\Admin\Council\Agendas&Packet Information\2012\10-08-12 Reg Mtg\Packet\Reclass Dept Dir Sal.doc
Page 1 of 1
