'It
-AR, EN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: October 8, 2012
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
Patrick Klaers, City Administrator
FROM: Terry Maurer, Public Works Director
SUBJECT: 2012 Street/Trail Maintenance Summary
Background
The 2012 CIP had two maintenance items included in it. There was a $50,000 item for
maintenance of trails and a $215,000 item (a combination of the 2011 and 2012 street
maintenance items) for maintenance of streets. These two items were spent on a variety
of maintenance activities and this memo is intended to provide a summary of these
activities now that all work has been completed and the final costs have been determined.
The trail maintenance monies were spent on three activities: applying Trial-Mat coating,
trimming of trees along a trail corridor to provide access for equipment and to eliminate
damage to adjacent vegetation, and crack filling trails in anticipation of future years trail
coating. The street maintenance monies were spent on four activities: seal coating, crack
filling, Trail-Mat application to delaminated areas prior to seal coating, and bituminous
mill and patch of large areas.
The attached map shows graphically where the various maintenance activities were
applied and approximately what percentage of the total bituminous trail and street
systems were positively affected by these activities.
The following tables provide for both the trail and street maintenance activities, the cost
of each treatment, approximate miles of the system impacted, and the approximate
percentage of the total system treated.
City Council Meeting
C:\Users\sonj a.klingberg\Desktop\10-8-12 Street-TrailMaintenanceSummary.doc
Page 1 of 2
