i1EN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: October 16, 2012 Agenda Item: 5.D.
TO: Parks Trails and Recreation Committee
FROM: Michelle Olson, Parks and Recreation Manager-00
SUBJECT: Freeway Park Improvement Discussion
Background
At the September 25, 2012 PTRC meeting, a motion was passed to table the off leash dog park
discussions until March of 2013. Also, the committee asked that Freeway Park Improvements
be moved up in priority and placed on an upcoming agenda. Staff has provided photos and an
aerial of the current conditions on the top portion of the park (Attachment A). The aesthetic
concerns about this park seem to come primarily from the hockey rink/warming house/parking
lot areas. Staff placed a Freeway Park Improvement Project (Attachment B) into the proposed
Capital Improvement Plan that is being reviewed by Council at their Monday, October 15 work
session. Since the committee has not defined specific recommendations for park improvements
at Freeway Park, staff did not provide specifics. However, if this project remains in the CIP,
the committee will need to work on providing specific details in order to move forward to
Council. Once specific details are determined, staff can put together a specific cost estimate for
the committee to review.
Requested Action
Staff provided this information for the PTRC to begin preliminary discussions on possible
improvements to Freeway Park in order to prepare a recommendation in 2013 for Council to
consider.
10162012 Freeway Park Improvement Discussion.doc
