lt
-Al ENHILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: December 17, 2012
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Patrick Klaers, City Administrator
SUBJECT: Fire Protection Contract Renewal
Backaround/Discussion
The original Fire Protection Services Contract("Contract") was for the five year period
from 1999—2003. The Contract has since been extended for two additional five year
terms from 2004—2008 and from 2009—2013.
The Contract allows for a third five year extension subject to the City adopting a
resolution calling for this extension.
The Lake Johanna Fire Department(LJFD)has been meeting our fire protection needs
and the three city contractual relationship has been mutually beneficial. LJFD is
currently in the middle of a six to seven year duty crew program that all three cities have
strongly supported.
Staff recommends approval of the attached resolution which renews the Contract for
another five year term.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council adopts Resolution 2012-053, a Resolution
Extending the Fire Protection Service Contract between the City of Arden Hills and the
Lake Johanna Fire Department.
I
