AR E_N HILLS MEMORANDUM DATE: February 11, 2013 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers Patrick Klaers, City Administrator FROM: Sue Iverson, Director of Finance and Administrative Services SUBJECT: Appointment of Darien Schifsky to the Position of Public Works Maintenance Worker Backl4round At the December 17, 2012, City Council meeting, Pete Saxe's retirement/resignation was accepted by the Council. At the same meeting, authorization to advertise for the vacancy created by Pete Saxe's upcoming retirement for the position of Public Works Maintenance Worker was approved. Discussion There were 33 applicants for this position. Three applicants were interviewed by the Public Works Director, the Public Works Superintendent, two Public Works Maintenance Workers, and the Director of Finance and Administrative Services. After completing the interviews, the top candidate was determined to be Darien Schifsky. Darien has some history working with the City. He began working for the City in May of 2010 and remained employed as a full-time seasonal employee until December 2012. Darien is a graduate of Anoka Technical College, where he earned his construction/electrician certificate. Additionally, Darien has completed several certification courses pertinent to this position, such as obtaining his Class A CDL permit, and being D.O.T. Driver Certified and front end loader certified. Criminal background checks, professional evaluations, personal references, employment background checks, and a pre-employment physical have been completed. All data received has been satisfactory. Staff Recommendation Staff recommends appointing Darien Schifsky to the position of Public Works Maintenance Worker for the City of Arden Hills at the starting wage of the union scale.
