Manufacturing Expansions Produced Most New Jobs in Southwest Region Continued growth of high technology manufacturing such as industrial machinery and • computers, electronic products and scientific instruments provided most new jobs in the region. Food products and other resource-based manufacturing were expanding, although at uneven rates during the past year. Constriction, retail trade and services were also large sources of new and expansion jobs in the region. The number of business dissolutions declined sharply from the previous quarter, particularly in Southwest the large retail trade and service industries.
