Julia Child, who could Heed
saute the tentacles off an octopus, will help
Land O'Lakes celebrate its 76th anniversary
today at the cooperative's headquarters in
Arden Hills. $a
She will milk a cow and take a lesson in
old-fashioned butter churning, among other
activities during her visit. Land O'Lakes was
started by farmers in 1921 and made business r
history a year later by marketing Land
O'Lakes Sweet Cream Butter. It marked the
first time a commodity product, such as butter, was successful-
ly branded.
The co-op is a financial supporter of a new cooking show
Child has prepared for public television this fall.
And speaking of butter, Land O'Lakes said Wednesday that its
butter sales rose 3.3 percent in the first half of 1996, the second
straight year of growth after several years of decline. The
uptick was attributed partly to two new butter products, Land
O'Lakes Honey Butter and Roasted Garlic Butter with Olive Oil.
—LEE EGERSTROM
