Economic Development Committee Meeting Minutes Wednesday, February 21, 1996 8:00 a.m. Army Reserve Center 1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 8:05 a.m. 2. Attendance Present were: Ray McGraw, Vice-Chair; Steve Freimuth; Tom Goblirsch; Terry Nagle; Council Liaison, Beverly Aplikowski; Finance Committee representative, Tom Steele; City Administrator, Brian Fritsinger; and Community Development Director, Kevin Ringwald. Absent were: Dan McCallum, Chair; and Arnold Lindberg. 3. Oath of Office The Oath of Office was administered to EDC members Goblirsch and Nagle by Council • liaison Aplikowski for the year of 1996. 4. Approval of Minutes Minutes of the January 17, 1996 regular meeting of the EDC were approved. 5. Monthly Report The Staff briefed the committee on its activities over the past month. Discussion took place on the progress in the Gateway Business District(GBD). The Staff informed the EDC that they are working with several different companies on potentially locating in the GBD. The Staff also informed the EDC that the City Council had established an Economic Development Authority (EDA) for the City of Arden Hills. The Staff described the development/redevelopment activities which an EDA could become involved in. The Staff informed the EDC that the EDA was set up so that the City Council would sit as the members of the EDA. It was generally agreed that an EDA would be a useful tool, if and when property became available at TCAAP. 6. Committee Member Recruitment Update The EDC discussed that increasing the membership in the EDC is priority goal for 1996. To that end, the EDC members are responsible for the recruitment of new members to the EDC. The Staff will contact these people and then forward their applications to the City . Council for consideration of appointment to the EDC.
