ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION FEBRUARY 19, 2013 4

Parks and Recreation Manager Olson
stated that one of the three larger parks work best
because the parking situation is better.

Mayor Grant
stated that he is leery of the outdoor movie on an inflatable screen idea because he
is unsure whether a large enough number of people will participate. He does like the idea of
doing something at Valentine Park, but the nature and size of the park limits what can be done
there.

Discussion continued regarding various event options.

The consensus among the Council was to focus on one park event at Valentine Park. Suggestions
were made for staff to explore such as ribbon cutting, picnic shelter dedication, ice cream social,
and music. Council asked staff to bring back options at a future Council meeting for this type of
event.

C.City Council Goals Update

Mayor Grant
stated that staff is working on a number of items, so that should be kept in mind
when looking at goal attainment.

City Administrator Klaers
indicated that each of the Directors will discuss their departmental
goals. He noted that this is a living document that is subject to change, and he thinks that good
progress has been made.

Director of Finance and Administrative Services Iverson
discussed the goals of Finance and
Administrative Services.

Councilmember Holden
stated that goal 2e, which is to provide staff and Council training on
sexual harassment, hostile work environment, and technology use, is important, but it is not in
progress yet. She sees this as a high priority and thinks it should get done.

Director of Finance and Administrative Services Iverson
explained that she had that particular
goal down for fourth quarter, but hopes to complete it this summer.

Mayor Grant
requested that another column be added to the goals worksheet, which would read,
timeframe allow a place for staff to indicate to the Council what they think
they can get done.

Councilmember Holden
inquired about goal 2d, which is to review/update the personnel policy.

Director of Finance and Administrative Services Iverson
stated that a Personnel Committee
meeting will be held in March and a list of minor changes to the personnel policy will be
discussed.

Councilmember Holmes
requested that charging fees to non-profits be researched. It is not
currently on the goal worksheet, but she would like to add it.
