UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br /> <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: April 29, 2013 <br /> <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br />Patrick Klaers, City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: Terry Maurer, Public Works Director <br /> <br />SUBJECT: South Water Tower Rehabilitation Bids <br /> <br />Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Sources: <br />$900,000 Low Bid $783,250 Water Utility Funds <br />Engineering $48,800 <br /> <br /> <br />Requested Action <br /> <br />Adopt Resolution 2013-022 Awarding the South Water Tower Rehabilitation Project to Classic <br />Protective Coatings, Inc., as the lowest responsive bidder in the amount of $783,250. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Kollmer Consultants of Stacy, Minnesota. Based on the recommendations from these inspection <br />reports, the south water tower (Red Fox Road) was scheduled for full repainting, inside and <br />outside, along with some minor repairs in 2013 through the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) <br />process. The specific CIP item for this work was budgeted at $900,000 (a copy of the CIP sheet <br />is attached). <br /> <br />On January 28, 2013, the City Council hired Bolton and Menk to provide engineering and <br />inspection services for the south water tower rehabilitation project in the amount of $48,800. <br />Bolton and Menk prepared plans and specifications for the rehabilitation and in March advertised <br />th <br />for bids. A mandatory pre-bid meeting was held on Tuesday, April 9, which included a site <br />th <br />visit to the water tower. Then, on Tuesday, April 16, bids were opened. Of the five contractors <br />at the pre-bid meeting, four submitted bids.
