MEMORANDUM <br />DATE:August 19, 2013 <br />TO:Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br />Patrick Klaers, City Administrator <br />FROM:Jill Hutmacher, Community Development Director <br />SUBJECT:Gateway Signs <br />The Mayor requested that the City Council discuss gateway signs. <br />Background/Discussion <br />The draft 2014-2018 Capital Improvement Plan includes six gateway signs. It was assumed that <br />two signs would be installed in 2013, and two signs each in years 2014 and 2015. Staff <br />recommended that the gateway sign project on the triangle parcel be completed prior to <br />considering additional sign projects so that adjustments to the sign or landscaping could be made <br />to future projects, if necessary.At the June 17, 2013, City Council work session, the Council <br />directed that the budget per sign should not exceed $20,000for years 2014 and 2015. <br />The approximate cost of the sign and landscaping at the triangle parcel was as follows: <br />Gateway Sign$10,100 <br />Landscaping and Site Improvements$23,100 <br />Total Costs(including value of in kind donations)$33,200 <br />Less In Kind and Cash Donations$5,500 <br />Net Cost to City$27,700 <br />Locations for future signs have not been selected. Potential locations, identified by the <br />Economic Development Commission, include: <br />Highway 96 at Round Lake Boulevard <br />Highway 96 at Lexington Avenue <br />County Road E2 at I-35W <br />County Road E at Highway 51 <br />County Road E at Lexington Avenue <br />County Road D at Cleveland Avenue <br />Lexington Avenue at the Roseville border <br />12 <br />Page of <br />
