AGENDA ITEM

MEMORANDUM

DATE: September 9, 2013

TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
Patrick Klaers, City Administrator

FROM: Terry Maurer, Public Works Director

SUBJECT: Equipment Discussion

Recently I asked the Council to
before they were scheduled to be replaced in the Equipment Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). In
response to that request the Council asked that the topic of equipment and its replacement be the
subject of a Work Session discussion. To help facilitate the discussion, attached are:

Current Equipment List for Public Works

2013-2017 CIP Equipment Replacement Overall Sheets
th

Memo from August 26 Council Meeting regarding Mower Purchase

-
mower. One thing we are finding is that -
mower fleet; each accumulating over 700 hours so far. Also, the majority of time these pieces of
equipment are operated by our seasonal workers who for various reasons are harder on
equipment than our full time employees. I have discussed with LTG Power Equipment, the State
contract vendor, the idea of replacing these mowers on a three year cycle trading the old mowers
in the process. Eric from LTG Power Equipment told me that due to the 28% off of retail that
we purchase the mowers for on the State contract and the fact that with a 4-year warranty we
would be trading them with one year remaining, that is transferable to the new owner, he can sell
them for good price, thus allowing us the maximum trade-in value. One added note, when we
-, LTG Power Equipment has provided a loaner
mower at no cost to the City. I would request that the Council consider this option for these
mowers so that generally any repairs are covered under warranty.

11
Page of
