City of Arden Hills Personnel Policy Effective August 26, 2003 <br /> <br /> <br />NON-DISCRIMINATION, HARASSMENT AND INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR <br /> <br />The City of Arden Hills is committed to a work environment where all individuals are treated <br />with respect and dignity, and which maintains a respectful work <br />environment free from violence, discrimination, sexual harassmen <br />inappropriate or degrading remarks or conduct. The City will not tolerate such behavior by or <br />towards any employee. Each individual has the right to work in a <br />that promotes equal employment opportunities and prohibits inapp <br />discriminatory practices, including harassment. Therefore, the City expects that all <br />relationships among persons in the office will be business-like and free of bias, prejudice, <br />harassment, and inappropriate behaviors. <br /> <br />It is the policy of the city to ensure equal employment opportunity without discrimination or <br />harassment on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, nationa <br />disability, age, marital status, or status with regard to public <br />characteristic protected by law. The city prohibits any such discrimination, harassment or <br />inappropriate behaviors. <br /> <br />DEFINITIONS OF DISRESPECTFUL OR INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR <br /> <br />In order to provide the employees of the City with a better understanding of the meaning of <br />inappropriate behavior, the following guidelines have been provided. This is not intended to <br />be a comprehensive listing of the definition of disrespectful or <br /> <br />1. Violent Behavior includes the use of physical force, harassment <br />(except as required in the line of duty), or abuse of power or authority when <br />impact is to control by causing pain, fear or hurt. Circumstances where the <br />position legally allows these behaviors, such as police officer <br />will not be considered a violation of the policy. <br /> <br />2. Discriminatory Behavior includes inappropriate actions or remark <br />disability, sex, marital status, age, sexual orientation, or staregard to <br />public assistance. <br /> <br />3. Offensive Behavior may include such work-related actions as: rudeness, <br />exclusionary behavior, angry outbursts, inappropriate joking or <br />vulgar obscenities, name calling, disrespectful language, or thenal filing <br />of an unfounded complaint under this policy. <br /> <br /> <br /> 41 <br />
