STREET MAINTENANCE <br />Function: Public Works <br />Supervisor: Public Works Superintendent <br />Fund#: 101 <br />Activity#: 43100 <br />Activity Scope <br />This department is responsible for maintaining City streets, including snowplowing, minor street <br />repair, street signs, and street sweeping. <br />Objectives <br />1.Maintain street infrastructure utilizing all available techniques including crack sealing, <br />seal coating, patching and overlays. <br />2.Recommend a cost effective program for reconstructing/reclaiming street surfaces when <br />maintenance techniques no longer provide the desired results. <br />3.Maintain and update equipment and vehicles. <br />Issues <br />1.Implement a capital improvement program for City infrastructure <br />2.Balance the public works department needs with available funds <br />3.Increased costs of fuel and street products due to fuel costs <br />4.Staffing and budgeting for unpredictable circumstances <br />5.Aging equipment <br />6.Increased safety regulation for equipment and vehicles <br />7. <br />Measurable Workload Data <br />None developed at this time. <br />Budget Commentary <br />The 2014 operating budget is an increase of 2.23% This <br />increase is primarily due to an increase of $10,000 for curb and sidewalk repair. <br />
