 <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE:EDC Agenda Item 4.A <br />November 6, 2013 <br />TO: <br />Economic Development Commission Chair and Commissioners <br />FROM: <br />Jill Hutmacher, Community Development Director <br />SUBJECT: <br />Report on 2013State of the City <br />The State of the City event was held on September 12, 2013, at Flaherty’s Arden Bowl. <br />Councilmembers and the Economic Development Commission Chair spoke on the TCAAP <br />project; economic development goals; current transportation and development projects; and the <br />Arden Hills Foundation. <br />The City received 92 RSVPs for the event, of which 56 (61%) attended. Nineteen people <br />registered as walk-ins for a total attendance of 75 people. Subsequent feedback from the St. Paul <br />Chamber of Commerce indicated that, in their experience, only 70% of RSVPs attend free events <br />and approximately 20% of attendees are walk-ins. The City will use this information for <br />planning purposes at any future State of the City events. <br />Events costs were as follows: <br />Flaherty’s Arden Bowl$963.46 <br />Shoreview-Arden Hills Bulletin$563.20 <br />Postage (2 postcard mailings)$112.20 <br />Total costs$1,638.86 <br />This is approximately $1,000.00 less than the cost of the 2011 State of the City event, largely due <br />to the cost difference between Flaherty’s and North Heights Lutheran Church. <br />City staff hascompiled notes regarding room layout, food, and audio-visual equipmentwhich <br />will be used for planning future events.
