5C <br />CONSENT ITEM <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE: <br />February 24, 2014 <br />TO: <br />Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br />Patrick Klaers, City Administrator <br />FROM: <br />Terry Maurer, Public Works Director <br />SUBJECT: <br />Purchase Used Plow Truck from Ramsey County <br />Budgeted Amount:Actual Amount:Funding Source: <br />$160,000$128,250 plus $4500 for Equipment/Vehicles/Furnishings <br />repainting (estimated)Fund <br />Requested Action <br />Authorizethepurchaseofaused2011Internationalsingleaxelplowtruckwithplowsand <br />sanderfromRamseyCountyfor$128,250.Also,authorizetherepaintingofthetrucktomatch <br />the Arden Hills fleet color of white, estimated at $4,500. <br />Background/Discussion <br />The2014CapitalImprovementPlan(CIP)includesthepurchaseofanewplowtruckwithplows <br />andsander.Thenewtruckisintendedtoreplaceour1997plowtruck.Inthepastfewyears, <br />therehavebeensignificantrepairstothisvehiclestransmission,brakesystemanddifferential. <br />However,RamseyCountywillbesellingaused2011Internationalsingleaxelplowtruck <br />equippedwithafrontplow,wingplow,bellyplowsanderandsaltadditivesystemfor$128,250. <br />In2011theCitypurchasedausedplowtruckfromRamseyCountytoaddtoourfleet.Thathas <br />turnedouttobeacost-effectivepurchasefortheCity.Therefore,staffisrecommendingthatthe <br />CouncilauthorizepurchaseoftheusedplowtruckwithaccessoriesfromRamseyCounty.As <br />withthepasttruckpurchase,itisrecommendedthattheusedtruckbepaintedwhitetomatchour <br />fleetscolor.Thepaintingisestimatedtocost$4,500.Thetotalcostwithpaintingwouldbe <br />$132,750. <br />The2014CIPhas$160,000budgetedforthepurchaseofanewplowtruck.Ofthattotal, <br />$20,000isestimatedtocomefromthesaleoftheold1997plowtruck.Bypurchasingtheused <br />plowtruckfromRamseyCounty,theCitywillsaveapproximately$7,000plustheproceeds <br />fromthesaleoftheoldtruck.Theoldtruckwilleitherbesenttoauctionorpossiblysentto <br />another City, whichever provides the best outcome for the City. <br />12 <br />Page of <br />
