Parks, Trails & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes January 8, 2013
Page 3

4. NEW BUSINESS

A. Trail Priority Discussion
Ms. Olson indicated she has included a future trail listing map and priority list for the
committee’s review. She mentioned in 2010 they did not number the trails in priority but
just indicated high, medium and low priority. Ms. Holden suggested they remove the
trails that really are not necessary.

After reviewing the list it was the consensus of the committee to move segment K2 to
low priority; segments C, C1 and D1 to medium priority; segment J to high priority; and
to separate E-1 into two segments and make the portion of the trail from 35W to
Moundsview High School as a high priority. Ms. Olson indicated she would make
designations for trail segment L since it will be completed and for segment O which is a
grant for Ramsey County and will also be completed.

Ms. Olson reported that she had talked to Public Works Director Maurer about restriping
trail segment M. Mr. Maurer will be checking on this since State aid funding was
involved and she will have more information by the next meeting.

Council Liaison Holden questioned the difference between high, medium and low
priority. Ms. Olson reported that staff looks for funding for various segments with an
emphasis on the higher priority but if a low or medium trail segment fits a grant/funding,
it then can move up in priority. Council Liaison Holden suggested the PTRC include the
reason for reprioritizing trail segments when presenting to Council at the joint meeting.

Ms. Olson also reported that apartment buildings would be going in on County Road F
and that a portion of trail would be put in at that time.

B. Other New Business
Ms. Olson indicated she will be sending out a new roster including the newest members
of the PTRC committee.

3.
