CONSENT ITEM 6D

MEMORANDUM

DATE: March 31, 2014

TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
Patrick Klaers, City Administrator

FROM: Terry Maurer, Public Works Director

SUBJECT: Purchase New Tool Cat

Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source:
$39,000.00 $48,844.13 Equipment/Building
Replacement Fund

Requested Action

Authorize the purchase of a new Tool Cat 5600 G-Series from Tri-State Bobcat, Inc., the State
contract vendor, for $48,844.13. Also, authorize sending to auction the 1988 John Deere tractor.

Background/Discussion

At the February 18, 2014, Work Session staff presented three proposed changes to the 2014
Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) relative to equipment purchases. These included purchase of a
used plow truck from Ramsey County rather than a new plow truck for an estimated savings to
the CIP of approximately $27,000.00. Not purchasing a new roller in 2014 that was budgeted at
$10,000.00 and purchasing a new Tool Cat rather than a Groundmaster which would cost an
estimated $10,000.00 more than was budgeted. The CIP budgeted amount for the replacement of
the Groundmaster is $39,000.00 (a copy of the CIP item is attached). The Council consensus at
the Work Session was to proceed with these changes.

The City of Arden Hills maintains a free membership in the Minnesota Cooperative Purchasing
Venture Program (State Contract). This allows the City to participate in the State specifications
and bid prices, resulting in the City paying the same amount for a single piece of equipment as
the State does for numerous pieces.
12
Page of
