CONSENT ITEM – 5D
City of Arden Hills
City Council Meeting for January 12, 2015

P:\Planning\Recycling & Garbage\2014\RFP_Recycling Services\CC Packet_(1-12-15) - Contract Extension Addendum

MEMORANDUM

DATE: January 12, 2015

TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
Patrick Klaers, City Administrator

FROM: Ryan Streff, City Planner

SUBJECT: Recycling Contract Addendum – Eureka Recycling Contract Extension

Action Requested

Approve the addendum to the Recycling Services Contract with Eureka Recycling in order to
extend the current contract from March 1, 2015, to May 3, 2015.

Background

During the City Council Work Session on December 15, 2014, the Council was informed of the
extension request made by Republic Services. As you are aware, the existing recycling contract
with Eureka Recycling is set to expire on March 1, 2015, unless an extension is granted by the
City Council. As proposed, the new contract with Republic Services is anticipated to begin on
May 4, 2015, in order to allow additional time for cart delivery and distribution. Republic
Services has informed staff that a more efficient transition form recycling bins to recycling carts
can be accomplished if the contract with Eureka Recycling is extended for two (2) additional
months.

Eureka Recycling has agreed to sign the contract addendum indicating their willingness to
extend their contract with the City for this additional time to cover the gap in recycling services
before the new contract with Republic Services begins in May. The addendum to the contract
would not impact the cost, frequency of pickup, or service routes. The attached addendum to the
Recycling Services Contract with Eureka Recycling indicates the extension from March 1, 2015,
to May 3, 2015.
