CONSENT ITEM – 5D MEMORANDUM DATE: March 30, 2015 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers Patrick Klaers, City Administrator FROM: Amy Dietl, City Clerk SUBJECT: Economic Development Commission (EDC) Appointments Background The City of Arden Hills has a nine-member Economic Development Commission (EDC) that advises the City Council on issues related to economic and business development. Currently, four of the nine seats on the EDC are vacant. Two applications to serve as EDC Commissioners were recently submitted to the City. The first applicant is Arden Hills’ resident, Kyle Lassen, who resides at 1400 Skiles Lane. Mr. Lassen graduated from Bethel University with a bachelor’s degree in Business-Finance and Business-Marketing, and he currently works as a Marketing Analyst. The second applicant, also an Arden Hills resident, is Michael Hands, 3493 Siems Court. Mr. Hands, another graduate of Bethel University, has degrees in philosophy and political science and currently works for a tax compliance reporting company. Commissioner Appointments Per the City’s policy on commissioner appointments, interviews with the applicants were conducted by the Mayor, the Chair of the EDC, the EDC Council liaison, and the EDC staff liaison. The interview panel was impressed by both applicants and the education and experience that they have to offer. Mayor Grant asked that staff prepare a recommendation for the City Council to appoint Kyle Lassen and Michael Hands to the EDC. Recommendation Approve Resolution 2015-024 appointing Kyle Lassen and Michael Hands to the Economic Development Commission (EDC).
