• CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: April 11,2001
TO: Mayor and City Councilmembers
FROM: Joe Lynch, City Administrato
SUBJECT: Day in the Park
Background
Previously, the City had sponsored the Day in the Park as an opportunity to showcase and
familiarize various park amenities in the City. For 2000, the focus of the event was shifted to
create more of a community event feeling. In 2001, the City will celebrate our Fiftieth
Anniversary with a celebration at Tony Schmidt Park. As a part of this, Day in the Park will be
celebrated with activities and events recognizing our anniversary celebration.
In 2000, staff was invited to be involved with and work at the Day in the Park celebration.
Those staff that worked on the Saturday event were offered the Monday off before the July 4th
. holiday as an exchange for helping with this City event. Those staff who chose not to work at
the event worked on that Monday.
This year, I would again like to extend the invitation to staff to work at the Fiftieth Anniversary
event. The response has been very positive and enthusiastic. A request has been made to allow
those employees that work the event time off on another date or date(s) in exchange. The request
has been made to have the 1/2 holiday on Christmas Eve converted to a full day, an the 1/2 day
holiday for New Year's Eve made into a full day. The total time exchange would be eight(8)
hours, 1 hour for every hour worked.
Labor costs to the City for allowing employees to work this event total $3,257 for all existing
personnel.
Recommendation
Staff would recommend that the City Council encourage the staff to participate in the Fiftieth
Anniversary celebration by allowing an exchange of time worked at the celebration for an
additional %holiday on both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve day.
•
