4) Please describe what economic development means to you.
Please describe what economic development means to you.
JL The planning that is necessary to balance Arden Hills area between residential,Parks, and business property.those things that affect
our taxes, cost of water and utilities. Also Look at the needs of our residents, such as,census of age groups of adults, children,
avera a size of families.
It off sets our taxes in the future.
3a Your old house needs a new roof, siding and windows, new wiring and plumbing to-code,a lawn and sidewalk,to fit into the
nei hborhood and you do these thin snot onI to enhance our life and that of our family, but the life of our nei hborhood.
ga An open-minded attitude toward proposals.Council,Planning staff and Commission members free of pre-conceived agendas and
narrow"nei hborhood concerns."
@. Opportunities to work and shop near our homes is nice but more important is that any developments ADD to our quality of living.I
would much prefer parks, and healthy food stores and localy owned businesses to outdoor chain strip malls like are being built
eve where(Maple Grove and Saint Anthonyto name a few
More businesses and light industry situatin themselves in arden hills.
Growin rosperity for citizens and businesses that leads to a sustainable quality of life.
Makin sure that there are sound businesses.
Brin in new businesses and development to the City, yet retainining the existinq businesses.
creatin o ortunities for development within a well planned framework including land plannincl as well as financial
Develo in or re-zoninQ land for industrial and commercial use.
Marketin the city to business and other organizations to encourage them to locate in the city.
Hmmmm-I guess redeveloping existing sites for new purposes, upgrading of existing businesses, and putting vacant land into
service. The process should be carefully implemented with a vision for long range objectives that ultimately balances benefits to the
tax rolls with quality of life for citizens.
Progress is marked by improving infrastructure and ensuring a viable private public partnership.Equitable tax levying is a principle
that drives development.
25L It means that money is spent wisely, but it is spent to make sure that the community is clean and safe. For instance,I believe that
Arden Hills leaders see our city as some bucolic burg outside the busy city. We"are"the city and we share all of the congestion of
the city roads.Arden Hills is loathe to put in sidewalks anywhere, and this is a major problem. The trails have been discussed as a
way around putting in sidewalks along roads, but nothing has happened in the 26 years that I have lived here. Our children cannot
even ride bicycles outside of cul-de-sacs.The community is cut off from itself in a north-south direction as well as an east-west
direction.Sidewalks,bridges,tunnels,trails.Being proactive is not waiting until deaths result in traffic/pedestrian incidents. We are
way behind the curve and behind our neingboring cities on this one.It is not fun to be a pedestrian, biker or driver for that matter,
in Arden Hills.
Market forces spending thier money not TAX dollars on orowth.
IL Improving the use of land.Increased tax base Improving the quality of life of most residents I would like to see the center of Highay
96 that is located in Arden Hills landscaped like it is in Shoreview.
IL Providing the incentives, opportunities and energy along with on-going technical oversight to foster inflow of revenue-producing
taxes businesses and industry to obtain an"optimal balance of housinq and commercial property tax flow revenue to the city.
= Planning for twenty years from now,not just next year.Plan, and implement, but don't abandon after the implementation has
occurred. How will the changes in economic development be supported in the future? An example, light rail was built, however,
realistic operating dollars were not allocated,so that fell to Hennepin County to absorb.I think ideas should be layered, don't change
eve thin at once.
fosterin and maintaining a healthy work and living environment
Economic Development is taking our very limited oreen space and buildin an thin retail business homes etc.
= Attracting firms that would fit in with residents. We have one of the most beautiful suburbs in the Twin Cities--we don't need body
shops, tire and exhaust warehouses, etc. We should be able to attract classy retailers as in Wayzata and White Bear Lake. The strip
mail on Lexington between Cub and Blue Fox is what we don't need.
zoning,het w/redevelopment,infrastructure road telecommunication etc
2A, MAINTAINING A HEALTHY BALANCE BETWEEN BUSINESS&INDUSTRY TO PROVIDE A SOLID TAX BASE&GOODS AND SERVICES
FOR ITS RESIDENTS AND KEEP THE PARKS,TRAILS AND OPEN SPACES WHICH PROVIDE A HIGH QUALITY OF LIFE SO PEOPLE WANT
TO LIVE HERE.
jL Basically the effort to create and maintain jobs/businesses in the community. Thus, while the city can help in the effort, the jobs and
businesses must come from the private sector.
2L City government creates conditions in which jobs are created. Our city already has more people in it from busineeses then residents.
Ownership of a city comes from residents not those who 9-5 it here in the city.AH is a great place to live and workand low taxes and
111111
Arden Hills Economic Development Survey
June — July 2006 Based Upon 76 Responses
