AGENDA ITEM – 1B <br /> <br />City of Arden Hills <br />City Council Meeting for September 21, 2015 <br /> <br />P:\Planning\Research Projects\Fire Station No. 1 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: September 21, 2015 <br /> <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br /> Patrick Klaers, City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: Ryan Streff, City Planner <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Lake Johanna Fire Station No. 1 Reuse Discussion <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Requested Action <br /> <br />Provide direction to staff on the reuse of the Lake Johanna Fire Station No. 1 located at 3246 <br />New Brighton Road. <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />At the City Council work session on August 17, 2015, Councilmember McClung asked that the <br />Council discuss the potential closure of Fire Station No. 1. Lake Johanna Fire Chief Tim <br />Boehlke, and Assistant Fire Chief Eric Nordeen discussed the history, staffing, and the new <br />operating model for the Lake Johanna Fire Department (LJFD). Fire Chief Boehlke explained <br />how the 24-hour duty crew and the effective coverage of the three (3) other stations has made <br />Fire Station No. 1 no longer necessary and recommended that the station be closed. The Council <br />was generally supportive of the closure of Fire Station No. 1. <br /> <br /> <br />Fire Station No. 1 - Site Information <br />• Current Zoning: R2 – Single & Two Family Residential District <br />• Future Land Use: Public & Institutional <br />• Lot Size: 2.83 Acres (1.12 acre wetland on eastern half of lot) <br />• Lot Frontage/Width: Approximately 330 feet along New Brighton Road. <br />• Lot Depth: Approximately 265 – 400 feet <br />• Constructed: 1960 - 3 vehicle/truck bays, office, basement (under office area), and a <br />detached accessory structure. <br />• Estimated Market Value: $748,000
