HUMAN RIGHTS <br />COMMISSION <br />THE STATE LAW <br />The Minnesota Human Rights Act (363.03) prohibits discrimination in the areas of: <br />' • Employment <br />• Housing <br />• Public Accommodation <br />• Public Services <br />' • Education <br />because of race, color, creed, religion, national origins, sex or disability. <br />In addition, amendments to the Act prohibit discrimination in the following areas: <br />• Extension of credit on the basis of sex <br />• Employment and education because of age <br />• Employment, housing and credit because of marital status <br />• Employment, housing and public services because of status with regard to public assistance <br />' THE ARDEN HILLS LAW <br />Village of Arden Hills Ordinance No. 105, passed May 27, 1968 established a Village Human Rights Commission. The <br />purpose of the Commission is to assist the Village Council and the Minnesota Department of Human Rights in: <br />• Implementing the Minnesota State Act against discrimination through the execution of a Memorandum of <br />' Agreement between the Village of Arden Hills and the Minnesota Department of Human Rights. <br />• Advising the Village Council on long-range programs to improve community relations. <br />WHO? <br />Your Human Rights Commission is comprised of ten (10) members — all residents of the community and appointed by <br />your Village Council. One Councilman serves in a liaison function, and we are assisted by the Village Staff. <br />WHAT? <br />Your Human Rights Commission recommends policies or actions to Village Government, organizations and individuals to <br />help provide full and EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL CITIZENS IN THE COMMUNITY; as examples: <br />• Housing profile <br />• Educational programs offered to the community relating to minority group problems and concerns <br />• Affirmative Action program relating to Village Administration employment policies <br />• Survey of facilities for the handicapped <br />WHAT IF? <br />' Should you, as a citizen of Arden Hills, wish to report, discuss or question matters relating to Human Rights in our Village, <br />you are encouraged to contact the Village Administration which will refer you to one or more members of the Human <br />Rights Commission. <br />Village of Arden Hills <br />1450 West Highway 96 <br />Arden Hills, Minnesota 55112 <br />Telephone: 633-5676 <br />PRINTED IN U.S.A. <br />MAY. 1978 <br />
