Gambling Permit <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br /> <br />The City has received an application from Merrick, Inc. for an off-site gambling permit to <br />conduct gambling activity at Flaherty’s Arden Bowl on March 6, 2016. Per Minnesota’s Lawful <br />Gambling regulations, Merrick, Inc. is required to obtain acknowledgment and approval by <br />resolution from the City to conduct off-site gambling. <br /> <br />Merrick, Inc. is holding its 14th Annual Bowl-A-Thon with all proceeds of the event going to <br />support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities at Merrick, Inc. Merrick, Inc. is a <br />private nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to empowering adults with disabilities. It <br />currently supports over 375 adults and is one of the largest Day Training and Habilitation <br />(DT&H) programs in the state. The money raised at this event with help provide services to <br />Merrick, Inc.’s clients (self-advocacy; social/leisure activities; physical, occupational, speech, <br />and sensory therapies; and a retirement program). <br /> <br />Requested Action <br /> <br />Staff recommends approving Resolution 2016-006 Approving LG230 Application to Conduct <br />Off-Site Gambling for Merrick, Inc. <br /> <br />Attachments: <br /> <br />Attachment A: LG230 Application <br />Attachment B: Resolution 2016-006 <br />CONSENT ITEM – 5I <br /> <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br />
