City of Arden Hills Personnel Policy Effective February 29,2016 <br />All employees may post announcements on the employee message board. This may <br />include (but is not limited to) the advertisement of personal items for sale, family <br />announcements, and general inquiries to staff, which can be done intermittently and not <br />a part of a business. Use of the message board is not to be used in any way as a forum to <br />communicate opinions or promote personal agendas of any kind. Personal <br />announcements about other employees may not be posted without their consent. All <br />entries are subject to removal if considered inappropriate for content, language, or any <br />other reason. <br />Use of Equipment <br />Allowable uses of electronic systems and information include the following, to the <br />extent that these uses are for the purpose of conducting City of Arden Hills business: <br />to facilitate performance of job functions; <br />to facilitate the communication of information in a timely manner; <br />to coordinate meetings of individuals, locations and City resources; <br />to communicate with other departments throughout the City; <br />to communicate with outside organizations as required in order to perform an <br />employee's job functions. <br />Personal Use of Equipment and Systems <br />Limited personal use of the City's computer system, including e-mail, social media sites, <br />and the Internet is permitted. Personal use of the computer system shall follow the same <br />guidelines as apply to personal use of the telephone and other personal activities while on <br />duty. Such personal use must not consume large amounts of City resources. Employees <br />using electronic media and services for personal use waive any claims to privacy regarding <br />that usage. Excessive personal use is prohibited and will be subject to discipline. Personal <br />use of a City e-mail account must conform to the same professional standards as work- <br />related communications and may not be used for business ventures or illegal activities. <br />Employees need to be particularly sensitive to the content and interpretation of e-mail <br />messages sent from City accounts as the e-mail address is clearly identified with the City. <br />Excessive Usage <br />Electronic media and services should not be used in a manner that is likely to cause <br />network congestion or significantly hamper the ability of other people to access and use <br />the system. Continued impedance of other users through mass consumption of system <br />resources, after receipt of a request to cease such activity, is prohibited. The willful or <br />careless introduction of malicious programs such as computer viruses, Trojan Horses and <br />worms into the City's network or into any external networks or computers can cause <br />such excessive computer usage or even damage a system and so would be a violation of <br />this policy. <br />E-mail Distribution Lists <br />98
