'fCommunity Sharing Fund
awards small grants to prevent big crises
4 t
s'.
1
I
4.
3
ONE-OF-A-KIND PROGRAM
Majel Carroll and other social workers turn to
GRANTS $3 MILLION TO PEOPLE IN NEED
the Community Sharing Fund of The Saint Paul
Foundation when people with emergency
needs have exhausted their financial resources. ou won't often hear of foundations helping individuals directly;
instead, grants and resources go to nonprofits and public sector
organizations that use the funds to fulfill their missions. But aware
of the fact that a small amount of money, perhaps to fix a broken
car or care for a sick child, can mean the difference between
making it or not, the Foundation started the Community Sharing
Fund of The Saint Paul Foundation.
Since 1980, the Fund has provided more than $3 million
through small, one-time grants to people who have exhausted
their financial resources. Once requested, grants can be
approved within a day, saving a person from an imminent
financial or personal crisis.
Majel Carroll,
Special Projects Coordinator,
Ramsey Action Programs
for Washington County
