Round Lake Page 1 of 1
Michelle Olson
Qm.. mike fix[mike f'ix@us.army.mil]
Sent: Tuesday, November 14, 2006 8:29 AM
To: Michelle Olson
Cc: Tom Barounis(E-mail); 'Dagmar Romano'; Pat_Martinkovic(E-mail); Terry_Schreiner(E-mail)
Subject: RE: Round Lake
Hi Michelle,
As I'm sure you are aware, Round Lake, and the surrounding lakeshore, is currently owned/controlled by the U.S. Fish &Wildlife
Service, so they have the final authority on land use. The Army's interest in Round Lake is limited to addressing contamination
that originated from historic practices at the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant. The potential for risks to human health and the
environment are associated with contamination in the sediment below the water. From a contamination perspective, the Army
would have no opposition to trails around the lake. Our concern would become greater only if there were a proposal for human
activity that could disturb the sediment on the lake bottom. From a restoration perspective, I'm guessing that the Minnesota
Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and the U.S.Environmental Protection Agency share the same concerns as the Army. As you
can see, I have provided a copy of this email to the knowledgeable individuals at the MPCA, U.S.EPA and U.S. Fish &Wildlife
Service for their information. I hope this information helps. If you would like to discuss this further feel free to give me a call at
651-633-2301 X1661.
Mike Fix
TCAAP
-----Original Message-----
From: Michelle Olson [mailto:Michelle.Olson@ci.arden-hills.mn.us]
Sent: Monday, November 13, 2006 1:48 PM
To: mike.fix@us.army.mil
*Subject: Round Lake
Hi Mike,
I just need to clarify the situation with Round Lake. What exactly is the contamination situation with that lake? I
have been told that the Army is not in favor of allowing any type of trail along the perimeter of that lake. Could you
please confirm this for me.
Thanks,
Michelle Olson
Parks and Recreation Manager
City of Arden Hills
651-634-5128
0
11/14/2006
