AGENDA ITEM – 1I <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br /> <br />DATE: April 18, 2016 <br /> <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> <br />FROM: Sue Iverson, Interim City Administrator/Director of Finance and Admin Services <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Metropolitan Council Reform Principles <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />All Council members received an email concerning Metropolitan Council Reform. The email was sent on <br />behalf of local government leaders in the metropolitan area who believe that the Metropolitan Council should <br />be reformed in order to be more accountable to the region it serves. A transmittal letter is attached, as well as <br />a copy of Principles for Metropolitan Council reform, a template resolution, some frequently asked <br />questions, and a list of communities who have adopted this initiative. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Staff would like direction from the Council on whether or not they would like to proceed and adopt a <br />resolution in support of this initiative. <br /> <br />Attachments <br /> <br />Attachment A: Metropolitan Council Reform Letter <br />Attachment B: Metropolitan Governance Reform Principles <br />Attachment C: Template Resolution <br />Attachment D: Metropolitan Council Reform Frequently Asked Questions <br />Attachment E: Adoptee List <br />
