r
it
Appendix B: Trail Classification & Design Standards
Some trails are used primarily for recreation purposes and allow relatively uninterrupted
pedestrian movement to and through the city park system. Other trails emphasize safe
travel to city parks or other destination points, and are generally located within an
existing road right-of-way. The type, design and location of trails are very dependent on
local circumstances including purpose, land or right-of-way availability, and the available
funding.
Trails can provide access to regional destination points (schools, work places, parks,
stores and open spaces within and outside the community) and should connect with trail
systems in the surrounding communities.
Trails accommodate pedestrians, bicycles and in -line skates. Some trails in Arden Hills
are grass or woodchip surfaced. Asphalt surfaced trails are the city's goal in order to
allow equal access to all user groups, as well as for durability and maintenance reasons.
City of Arden Hills Comprehensive Plan - 1998 Page 54
Parks and Trails
