Memorandum, Bethel College/Arden Hills Park Development
Page Three
December 29, 1998
Other Issues
Several other questions were raised at the last meeting that can also be commented on at this
time. These points are:
• There is no intent to light the soccer, softball or tennis courts.
• The ownership of the field is yet to be determined, and will need to be evaluated
by attorneys.
• There is no agreement for the joint use of a facility, and such an agreement will
have to be developed and approved before the project proceeds.
• The parties will need to determine who constructs the project.
• While there is interest in having the fields available for use in the fall of 1999,
both parties agree that it is most likely a 2000 project opening.
• Ramsey County is open to considering other options for the design of Old
Snelling Avenue.
Requested Action
The Parks and Recreation Commission is asked to review the preliminary concept plan for
recreational fields on the Bethel property and develop a recommendation for the City Council on
the feasibility of the concept. The Commission should also discuss and consider dates for
® neighborhood meetings with residents of the Chatham neighborhood and methods for funding a
portion of the project, if appropriate.
Representatives of Bethel College are expected to be in attendance to be able to answer any
questions the Commission may have.
BF/sls
