Point out how park users feel more comfortable walking trails in these parks now <br /> that the buckthorn has been removed. <br /> .-Check with your city about including an insert regarding buckthorn in utility bill mailings. In many <br /> communities the only cost to you is the printing, not the stuffing cost. However, if you don't have <br /> the printing funds either, work with your city council to see if they will approve the text and arrange <br /> for it to be printed and added to the bill mailing. <br /> :-Visibility <br /> There are many ways to make residents more aware of this pest: <br /> �- In Rochester, the Master Gardeners have designed. made and distributed"Buckthorn Buster' buttons <br /> and T-shirts to raise awareness. They have also produced "Buckthorn Removal In Progress"signs <br /> to use in project areas.To find out about ordering these materials, contact Doug Courneya at <br /> a-Think about creating the equivalent of"Burma Shave" Buckthorn signs along the road in areas infested <br /> with buckthorn to create awareness. A number of neighbors called in wanting to know what was wrong with these <br /> trees/shrubs and why they were to be removed. Educate at every opportunity. <br /> RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS <br /> Let others know about your efforts! Solicit assistance by talking with garden clubs, Rotary, Masons, Lions, <br /> religious, school and other service groups. Donations may follow from these groups or they may be looking <br /> for a volunteer project for that year. <br /> Advertise in your newspaper for volunteers and/or contact your United Way indicating that you are looking <br /> for volunteers. United Way operates a volunteer listing. <br />
