<br /> <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />PUBLIC HEARING – 8C <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: September 12, 2016 <br /> <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br /> Dave Scherbel, Building Official <br /> <br />FROM: Rob Ward, Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer <br /> Sue Iverson, Interim City Administrator <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Accelerated Nuisance Abatement <br /> 1927 County Road D W <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Requested Action <br /> <br />Motion to approve Resolution 2016-029 ordering accelerated nuisance abatement at 1927 <br />County Road D W for excessive vegetation growth. <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />Due to a complaint, staff inspected 1927 County Road D W on August 29, 2016. Staff noted <br />excessive vegetation growth and determined that the property was in violation of the following <br />subsections of City Code Section 602.02 Public Nuisance Affecting Health: <br /> <br />• Subd. 6. All noxious weeds and other growths of vegetation upon public or private <br />property in excess of eight (8) inches. <br /> <br />Following its initial inspection, staff sent a letter to the property owner giving them one week to <br />correct the issues. A follow-up inspection on September 8, 2016 found the violations on the <br />property to persist. <br /> <br />In accordance with the City’s accelerated abatement procedures in Section 602.07 of the City <br />Code, a letter was mailed to the property owner on August 29, 2016 (Attachment A). Based on <br />the accelerated abatement procedures, the property owner has seven working days to abate the <br />nuisance, which was by September 7, 2016. A follow-up inspection showed that no action has <br />been taken (Attachments B and C). <br /> <br />Due to the reoccurring nature of these types of violations, staff is requesting the City Council <br />issue an order for abatement of the property and to continue the abatement order for a two year
