DATE: February 13, 2017

TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
William S. Joynes, Sr., City Administrator

FROM: Sue Iverson, Director of Finance and Administrative Services
Dave Perrault, Finance Analyst

SUBJECT: Ordinance Language Change Regarding False Alarms

Background

The City currently charges property owners and/or their tenants for false alarms that require a
police response following a pre-specified number of incidents. As the ordinance is written, the
City is only allowed to notify the current occupant of a property, however, in the case of a tenant
situation the owner may not be notified. Being the property owner is ultimately responsible for
the charges, City Staff feels it is in the best interest of the City and property owners to notify
both parties. The City Attorney has reviewed the ordinance and suggested language changes.
The updated language for the ordinance is attached.

Council Action Requested

1.
